A tough week for Snowflake’s softball team resulted in a pair of region losses to Payson and Holbrook.
Hosting the Longhorns on Tuesday, Snowflake fell behind early after giving up three runs in the first and four more in the second before scoring once in the second. Payson moved the margin to 9-1 with two more runs in the third. Following two scoreless innings, Snowflake scored once in the sixth but that would be as close as they would get. Payson added one more in the seventh to win the game 10-2.
For the Lobos, Jashlee Schneider went 2 for 3; Kaylee Thomas was 2 for 3; and Heather Whipple went 2 for 3, with a double; and Hallie McCray was 1 for 3 with a double.
Sydney Bauer went the distance in the circle allowing 10 runs on 11 hits with seven strikeouts and she walked four Longhorn batters.
Playing at second ranked Holbrook on Friday, the Roadrunners and Lobos battled in a defensive game eventually won by Holbrook 3-0. The only three runs in the game all came in the third inning by the Lady Roadrunners.
Snowflake struggled with Holbrook pitcher Rayanna Yellowhair, who gave up just two hits to the Lobos. Jordyn Powers was 1 for 2; and Schneider went 1 for 3.
Bauer also pitched well despite the loss. She only allowed three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and walked only two.
“This was a difficult week. We have to rally back, keep moving in a positive direction and be ready for a very tough week ahead,” stated Lobo Head Coach Aaron Huish.
With the two losses the Lobos dropped to 5-3 in regular season games and they entered this week ranked 10th in the rankings. After hosting Show Low on Tuesday, they will remain home to host Safford on Thursday. Friday they play at Blue Ridge. Next Tuesday Snowflake will be at Winslow.
