Softball 1 Snowflake

The Lady Lobos bounced back from five losses in the Gracie Haught tournament last weekend with a pair of power point wins last week including an east region win over Winslow.

Hosting Florence on Tuesday, the softball team jumped out early with a pair of first inning runs. The Gophers cut that lead in half in the top of the second but Snowflake scored twice in the third and added two more in the fourth and another in the fifth to lead 7-1. Florence made a late game charge with two in the sixth and three in the seventh. Snowflake held on to win the game 8-6.

Hailey Kay went 2 for 3 with a home run blast. Kaylee Thomas was 3 for 3; Jashlee Schneider, 2 for 3; Hallie McCray, 1 for 3; Rylee Hensley was 1 for 4.

Sydney Bauer worked all seven innings in the circle allowing six runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and walked three to get the win.

Hosting Winslow on Thursday, the Lobos countered two first inning runs by the Bulldogs with three of their own to lead by one after the opening frame. That one run lead ended up being critical. Both teams scored once in the fourth then matched each other again with three in the fifth. Snowflake pulled ahead by three following two runs in the sixth. Winslow scored twice in the top of the seventh but that was as close as they would get leaving Snowflake with the 9-8 region win.

Thomas went 4 for 4; Bauer, 2 for 4; Hensley went 2 for 4, with a home run; McCray went 1 for 3, with a double; and Lanee Penrod was also 1 for 3.

Bauer earned her second win of the week working seven innings where she allowed eight runs on 14 hits, and had three strikeouts and two walks.

“It was a big week with two huge wins. We hopefully keep getting better every day and every game. Sydney Bauer continues to improve in the circle for us. Kaylee Thomas has an amazing approach at the plate and an aggressive attitude on the bases. Rylee Hensley has been a great team leader for us. We are looking forward to the rest of the 3A east play and making some noise along the way. It seems like another season has begun,” stated Coach Aaron Huish.

With the two wins the Lobos improved their season mark to 9-7. More importantly they are now 5-1 in power point games. The first rankings of the season will be released on Tuesday of this week.

After hosting Payson on Tuesday, Snowflake will travel to Holbrook on Friday. Next Tuesday they host Show Low.
