Holbrook’s City Council passed a resolution setting the fees and regulations for the Holbrook Cemetery at the Feb. 27 meeting.

The cost was broken into a three-tiered approach, with the first tier, and lowest cost, being for citizens who live within the city limits. The second tier covers those within a 15-mile radius of City Hall but outside of city limits; and the final tier for those outside the 15-mile limit.

Under these guidelines full size grave plots will be $375 for tier one, $475 for tier two and $575 for tier three. The cost of an infant or child or urn space grave for a quarter plot is $175, $200 and $225, and the cost of a half plot is $200, $400 and $450.

Opening and closing for standard grave space or an infant or child or urn plot is $200 for all tiers. The additional fee for opening and closing on weekend or holidays is $100 for all tiers.

The cost of a crypt is $500, $600 and $700, within the tiers, with the opening and closing being $100 for all tiers.

Indigent burial is the same pricing structure as the standard grave including opening and closing. Exhumations are $750 for all tiers.

The setting of a flat headstone is $100 for a single and $150 for a double and is the same price for all tiers. The setting of an upright headstone is $200 for a single and $300 for a double and is the same price for all tiers.

The cost for veterans, which includes opening and closing, is $500 for city residents, $600 for those who reside within 15 miles of city hall but outside city limits and $700 for those outside the 15 radius.

Although voting in favor of the resolution, Councilman Richard Peterson noted that since the major cost of the cemetery is covered by taxes and not the fees, he is concerned that the City of Holbrook taxpayers will be paying for people who want to be buried here, but don’t live here. Peterson said, “Snowflake charges $2,500 for outside people to be buried there.”

The new fees and regulations will take effect 30 days from the meeting date.
