Softball 2 Snowflake

The Lady Lobos moved their regular season mark to 1-1 with a 17-5 win over Tuba City last Monday. They followed that up with a 3-2 performance at the Safford Invitational held over the weekend.

Friday at the tournament Snowflake fell to Safford 0-10, and dropped a 1-9 decision to Morenci. They bounced back in a solid way on Saturday with a 10-0 shut out win over Hayden followed by a 12-1 win over Miami and a 10-5 win over east rival Blue Ridge.

In the win over Hayden, Snowflake pounded out 11 hits led by Sydney Bauer who went 3 for 3 with a home run. Saydee Tanner, Rylee Hensley and Taylee Craner each had triples, and Kennedee Hensley doubled.

Bauer earned the win in the circle with just four innings or work. She faced 17 batters, giving up no runs or hits with three strikeouts and walked three.

The 11-run win over Miami was also a strong performance at the plate where the team finished with nine hits led by Rylee Hensley and Hallie McCray with two each. Bauer and McCray each doubled in the win. Bauer was again strong in the circle with five strikeouts and only two walks while giving up just three hits.

Their final game of the tournament was a match up with a familiar Blue Ridge team. Snowflake started well with two in the second, but fell behind after the Jackets scored five runs in the third. That deficit didn’t last long, as the Lobos pushed across four in the bottom of the third and four more in the fifth to win the tournament game 10-5.

Snowflake made the most of their three hits in the game, but took advantage of walks and errors by Blue Ridge to get the win. “We had a good tournament, lots of work still to do though. We saw some girls in places we needed to see them,” stated head Coach Aaron Huish.

Snowflake will host Window Rock on Wednesday then travel to Thatcher on Thursday. They will have a week off before competing in the large Gracie Haught Tournament held in Payson beginning on March 15.

The Lobos entered this week with an overall 4-3 record.
