The Lobos edged their regular season mark to 2-0 with a 15-5 win at Tuba City on Monday of last week. Regular season victories are important for power points. Games that won’t count towards power points were the three tournament losses the Lobos suffered at the Joe Padilla Baseball Tournament held in Florence on Thursday and Friday.
On Thursday, the Lobos fell to Morenci 3-5, then later in the day they were shut out 0-5 by San Tan Foothills. On Friday they dropped another close game, coming up short in a 2-5 outcome against Apache Junction.
In their contest at Tuba City on Feb. 26, the Lobos made a statement early scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning. They moved that lead to 10-0 in the top of the third before the Warriors extended the game with three in the home half of the third frame. Snowflake added three more in the fourth then closed the game out with one in the fifth.
The Lobos had little problem with Tuba City pitching, finishing the game with 18 hits led by Brydon Hatch who went 4 for 4 including a home run, with 4 RBI and he scored three times. Ricky Mungar had a double as one of his two hits, and Josh Beecroft, Joey Beecroft, Fernando Quintana and Ricky Mungar each hit doubles.
Joey Beecroft, Nathanael Owens and Chase Williams combined to pitch a solid game on the hill collectively striking out seven Tuba City batters.
After hosting Window Rock on Monday of this week, the 2-0 Lobos will travel to face Safford on Thursday. Friday afternoon Thatcher makes a visit in what will be Snowflake’s final game prior to their spring break.
