Irene Bates Lewis died during the midnight hour of Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at her home in Holbrook following a lengthy illness. She was 84 years old. The funeral service for Irene Bates Lewis will begin 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, at the Holbrook Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where the public visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. The concluding service and interment will immediately follow at the Holbrook Cemetery. Irene was born on a Wednesday, Jan. 10, 1934, in Winslow to her parents, the late Wilford Woodruff and Lilly (Gardner) Bates. Irene will always be remembered as a loving wife and mother. Her legacy continues through her seven children, 29 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Lewis. Owens Livingston Mortuary of Holbrook handled the arrangements.
