The Lady Lobos played well last week winning one game, losing one in overtime, and leading Holbrook at the half of their third outing before being outscored. Snowflake opened the week hosting Payson on Tuesday and in a hard fought game against Payson’s decided height advantage the Lobos fell in overtime, 52-49.

The game was close throughout. Payson led by one after the first period, then Snowflake tied the game at the half. It was a one point Lobo lead after the third, then both teams scored well in the fourth before Payson tied the game up at 45-45 forcing the overtime. In the extra four minutes the Longhorns outscored Snowflake 7-4 to secure the three-point win.

Emily Ballard led Snowflake in scoring with 16 points. Nikita Olms added 15; Bailee Flake, 8; Heather Whipple, 4; Camaria Reidhead, 4; Trysten Hancock, 1; and Kaylee Coplan also added 1 point.

The Lobos traveled to Round Valley on Thursday and came away with a 44-41 win, which gave them momentum heading into Friday’s contest at Holbrook.

That momentum from Thursday didn’t seem to work in the first period at Holbrook as the Roadrunners led 14-9 after the first period. In the second, Snowflake got things rolling. They held Holbrook to only six points, while netting 15 of their own to lead 24-20 at the half against the highly ranked Roadrunners.

Holbrook proved worthy of their ranking in the third quarter overtaking the Lobos with a 24-point outburst. Snowflake eventually went on to lose the game 58-45.

Ballard scored well leading Snowflake with 16 points. Olms added 15, Trysten Hancock had 6 as did Reidhead. Flake finished with 2 points.

Snowflake enters the final week of the regular season ranked 21st in the 3A rankings with an 11-14 overall record and they are 5-11 in regular season games. With games against lower ranked Show Low on Wednesday and Blue Ridge on Friday, Snowflake has a chance to improve on that ranking. The Lobos will host the Cougars then will travel to Blue Ridge for the final regular season game. Snowflake will play in the east region tournament next week.
