Snowflake had a busy week last week with three games, including two long road trips. They completed the week with a one to two mark, which moved their overall season record to 7-7.

On Wednesday, the Lady Lobos made the trip to Window Rock to face the Scouts. The first half ended with the Scouts on top by just six points. Snowflake cut that margin to only four points by the end of the third. In the fourth, Window Rock outscored the Lobos by seven points handing Snowflake the 61-50 loss.

The turnover bug had an impact on the game with Snowflake committing 30 miscues throughout the game. Window Rock returned the favor with 34 turnovers of their own. Both teams made several trips to the line with the two combing for 59 free-throw attempts. Snowflake went 12 for 27, and the Scouts were 21 for 32 in the win.

Nikita Olms led the Lobos with 13 points. Emily Ballard added, 10; Taryn Flake, 8; Camaria Reidhead, 7; Shelby Larson, 4; Heather Whipple, 3; Kaylee Coplan, 3; and Tristan Hancock finished with 2.

Friday’s game was an even longer road trip to Florence, where the Lobos returned victorious with a 45-27 win over the Gophers. Both teams struggled to score in the first but Snowflake led 8-5. Snowflake increased that margin to 18-13 at the half. By the end of the third they were ahead by double digits before going on to get the win.

Olms led the team in scoring with 11 points. Ballard added 7; Taryn Flake, 7; Shelby Larson, 5; Heather Whipple, 5; Reidhead, 4; Hancock, 4; and Bailee Flake helped with 2.

On Saturday, the Lobos returned home to host the defending state champion Valley Christian Lady Trojans. The Trojans graduated five of their top six players off that winning team, but they still entered this game with only one loss, coming the night before.

Snowflake fell behind early and didn’t score double figure points in any of the four quarters in the 56-35 loss. Coplan led the way in points with 9. Ballard and Larson each had 8; Olms, 4; Bailee Flake, 4, and Taryn Flake finished with two.

Snowflake played their final game prior to the holiday break on Tuesday night when they traveled to Winslow to open East Region play. The Lobos surprised the Bulldogs in their initial meeting last season. No doubt Winslow will remember that contest this year.

Following that game the Lobos will return to action on January 5th with a trip to Payson.

Snowflake entered this week 7-7 overall, but they are just 1-4 in power point contests. A win in Winslow would certainly boost their overall ranking.
