With the fall sports season officially in the books at Holbrook High School it is time for Roadrunner fans to head to the gym. Holbrook’s basketball teams are set to begin the 2017-2018 campaigns.
The boys team coached by Delmar Johnson will begin their season on Friday facing the host team Chandler Prep in the first game of the Chandler Prep Thanksgiving Tournament. Holbrook will be in action Friday and Saturday at the tournament. The Birds are coming off a 9-13 season last year and despite once again not having much height on their roster they will again give their opponent fits with their non stop work ethic.

The Lady Roadrunners kicked off their season on Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving with four games at the Queen Creek Tournament. The Ladies team, coached by Greg Perkins, is coming off a final four appearance last season with a 26-6 overall record. The team has several returning players from that group including, seniors Elena Smith, Twyla Clark, Dakota Dick, Tyler Pacheco, Tyanna Johnson and Rayanna Wauneka; juniors, Tristen Ambrose and Shilaine Gorman; sophomores, Madison Chappell and Megan Cummings; and freshman Matehya Aberle.
Following their play at the Queen Creek tournament, the team will travel to Blue Ridge on Dec. 1 to open East Region play, then will host Safford on Dec. 2, with games played at the Holbrook Junior High Mike Starr Gym.
