Holbrook’s football season came to a close last Friday night in Payson as the Longhorns dominated their visitors, 49-0.
Holbrook played well early, giving up just one touchdown with two minutes left in the first period. Payson added a second score late in the first to lead 14-0, which is where that lead stood early in the second when a Longhorn player was injured, causing a 45 minute delay.
Following the delay the Longhorns came out strong, piling up 42 points by the half. With a running clock in the second half, the game ended quickly with just one final Longhorn score.
Payson closed its season at 3-7, while Holbrook wrapped up a 2-8 season after being 2-2 through the first four weeks.
Holbrook quarterback Frankie Ulibarri struggled with the passing game, completing none of his 10 attempts with one interception. Freshman Jaggar Buckley, who played in the fourth period, completed his only pass for five yards to Michael Queiruga.
Holbrook finished the night with only 85 yards on the ground. Zakhari Waits picked up 46 of those on 10 attempts. Shaylan Shay ran well late in the game, covering 15 yards on two totes. Finn Kinghorn had 13 yards on five rushes. John O’Brien had 10 yards on two runs. Ulibarri carried four times, picking up nine yards. Isaac Serna and Brady Buckley carried a total of five times, but had negative yards.
