The final week of the regular season has arrived for Snowflake’s soccer teams. The boys team enters the final week ranked fourth, and with eight teams qualifying for the boys post season they should easily qualify for the state tournament with first round action getting underway next Wednesday, Oct. 25.
Snowflake played just once last week picking up a 2-0 home field win over St. Johns. After hosting Page on Tuesday of this week, the Lobos will have to wait to see who their opponent will be in the first round of the state bracket.
The Lady Lobos are on the outside looking in on the post season. They enter the final week ranked sixth in power points, but on the girls side only the top four teams will be involved in the state bracket. Northland Prep, Round Valley and Chino Valley, all have secure holds on the top three spots, that fourth spot is currently held by Show Low.
After playing at Blue Ridge on Tuesday of this week, the Lady Lobos will host Show Low in the regular season finale on Wednesday. If they could win their final two matches, then get some outside help there is a slim chance Snowflake could climb into the fourth and final post season spot.
The Lady Lobos did pick up two wins last week. On Monday they broke away from a scoreless first half in Holbrook to defeat the Roadrunners, 3-0. Sarah Birtcher scored two goals and Janie Tenney added the other goal.
Hosting Blue Ridge on Thursday, the Ladies came up with a big 2-0 win. Birtcher and Tenney each had goals in the win. Emily Rolow pitched the shut out in both the Holbrook and the Blue Ridge matches, combining for 27 saves in the two matches.
