Nav County

During the July 25 meeting of the Navajo County Board of Supervisors, sheriff’s office and other county staff came out in full force to honor retiring Deputy Brenda Clark of Holbrook.

Lieutenant Don Griffiths gave an overview of Clark’s experience with Navajo County, noting that in 1983 she began her service as a dispatcher.

In the mid-1990s, Clark attended the Sheriff’s Department Training Academy and served as a deputy sheriff until 2004 when she went into the civil division.

Griffiths noted, “Brenda has been instrumental in training supervisors and deputies, as well as developing procedures.”

Clark is also credited with collecting taxes from citizens evading that duty. “Then we had people calling and thanking us, and commending Brenda for her compassion and understanding in these bad times in their lives,” Clark said.

Clark volunteered her time for county fairs, shift coverage and anything that her team needed from her. For example, Griffiths said, “She recently covered a dispatching shift and it was as though no time had passed.”

Clark’s plan for retirement is to continue to volunteer without pay at the sheriff’s office and in the civil division in any capacity that she is needed, especially in training those taking over her position.

District V Supervisor Dawnafe Whitesinger said, “I can’t help but be impressed and inspired by you. Best of luck in your retirement.”

Griffiths closed with, “She has gone out of her way her entire career for Navajo County, the sheriff’s office and the citizens of Navajo County, and her retirement is a large loss to the department.”
