The majority of Holbrook voters decided that a property tax was not something they were willing to support. The May 16 election resulted in 428 ballots cast, with 212 voting against the tax, 191 voting in favor and 25 ballots rejected.

City officials had asked residents to support a tax that would produce $100,000, primarily to fund the hiring of an additional officer for the Holbrook Police Department, with some funds to go to the Holbrook Volunteer Fire Department. How the city will move forward now that the measure has failed has yet to be determined.
