The Lady Lobos have hit a tough stretch as they wind down the regular season. Dating back to April 14 they have lost three of four games, with each of those losses coming against East Region foes.

Last Tuesday they were upset by 20th ranked Holbrook, 3-2. Wednesday was a bit of a bounce back with a 7-5 win at Round Valley. On Friday they returned home, where they fell to Show Low by the same 7-5 score.

Snowflake’s game in Holbrook started well enough as the Lobos scored once in the opening inning. They held that lead until Holbrook tied things up with a run in the fourth. Snowflake moved ahead for what seemed to be the game winning run in the top of the sixth, making the score 2-1. Holbrook’s Aiyana Gary squelched that idea with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth, which put Holbrook on top for good at 3-2.

Snowflake finished with seven hits, but made three errors. Breklee Tanner and Chandler Johnson both went 2 for 3. Shanae Stratton and Hallie McCray were both 1 for 4, and Hallie Bauer went 1 for 3.

Bauer did the work in the circle, giving up three runs on just three hits with eight strikeouts and three walks.

Playing in Round Valley the Lobos led 4-1 after three innings and never gave up that lead despite Round Valley scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh. Snowflake pounded out eight hits in the win.

Jessica Neff was 2 for 4 with a triple and a double. Kaylee Thomas was also 2 for 4. Tanner, Stratton, Johnson and Shaelee Hensley each had one hit. Johnson’s was a home run and Stratton had a double.

Tanner worked all seven innings in the circle, giving up five runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and three walks.

Hosting Show Low on Friday, the Lobos fell behind in the third when the Lady Cougars scored four runs. Snowflake trimmed that lead in half with two in the fourth, but was never able to catch up. Trailing 7-2 in the seventh the Lobos made things interesting with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but finally fell 7-5.

Johnson tripled and Bauer hit a double as two of the 12 Lobo hits in the game.

Tanner took the loss in the circle. She allowed seven runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and walked three.

After playing at Blue Ridge on Tuesday to wrap up the regular season, the Lobos will have to await their fate in terms of when they will play in the state tournament. They entered the week ranked seventh in power points. If they remain inside the top eight they will get a first round bye and avoid the play-in game, which teams ranked ninth through 24th will have to play. Those play-in games will be played today (April 26) at the site of the higher seeds.
