Holbrook’s Lady Roadrunners entered Monday’s regular season finale in Payson ranked 20th in the 3A power rankings. If they can remain in the top 24, they will be in the opening round play of the state tournament today (April 26). Playing as one of the lower seeds they will be on the road, but their opponent wasn’t slated to be revealed until Tuesday.
Holbrook balanced on the 24th position of the rankings for a couple of weeks, but Tuesday’s 3-2 upset win over visiting Snowflake was enough of a boost to most likely secure them the playoff game opportunity.
In Tuesday’s win Aiyana Gary hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to put the Birds on top for good at 3-2.
The Roadrunners couldn’t keep that momentum last Friday as they lost 10-3 in Winslow.
