While hosting Snowflake last Tuesday afternoon, the Holbrook Roadrunners solidified at least a top two finish in the East region with a 3-2 win over the Lobos.

The game was another defensive battle, with Snowflake outhitting Holbrook five hits to four, but the Roadrunners made the most of their four hits. Justin Perkins led the way with two of those hits, going 2 for 3 with a run scored. Gabe Gabaldon was 1 for 3 and scored a run. Ryan Short went 0 for 2, but drew a walk and scored a run. Cade Maestas had Holbrook’s other hit, going 1 for 3. The Birds scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Snowflake scored once in the top of the fourth, and again in the top of the fifth. The Lobos collected five hits, all off Tristan Baldonado, who pitched well through six innings of work to get the win. He finished with 13 strikeouts and a walk. He was pulled with one out in the seventh and replaced by Jalen Nez, who faced two batters, getting both out to end the game.

With the win the Roadrunners moved their season mark to 21-5. They were slated to close out the regular season in Payson on Tuesday. They will most likely receive a first round bye in the state playoffs, so they will be off for a long time before opening the state tournament on Friday, May 5.
