The Holbrook Lady Roadrunners continue to hold on to state playoff hopes as they hover around the 24th and final ranking with just four games left.
Last week the Lady Roadrunners nearly swept two games of a doubleheader at Blue Ridge. In the first game they held a one-run lead going into the bottom of the seventh only to see the Lady Yellowjackets come back with two runs to win the game 4-3.
The second game belonged completely to the Roadrunners, who won handily, 12-2.
Friday’s home game with Show Low didn’t go so well. The sixth ranked Lady Cougars made quick work of the Birds, handing them a 14-1 setback.
Holbrook entered this week ranked 22nd in the 3A rankings. With just three games left on their schedule they will most likely need to win at least one of those three to have a chance for post-season play. That won’t be an easy task, though, as they face three top 10 teams
After hosting third ranked Snowflake on Tuesday, the Birds will play at fourth ranked Winslow on Friday, April 21. On Monday they close out the regular season when they host eighth ranked Payson.
Holbrook entered this week with a regular season record of 4-11.
