Over the past nine months, tens of thousands of young athletes from across the country have stepped up to the line to show off their free throw skills through the Elks Hoop Shoot. Only six will become national champions, and three area youth have a shot at one of those titles. Two of those student-athletes attend Holbrook Junior High School and will represent Holbrook Elks Lodge No. 2450 at the national competition on Saturday, April 22, in Chicago. Damon Attakai earned the regional 12 to 13 boys’ title by converting 24 of 25 free throw shots. Mylee Demuth won the 12 to 13 girls’ title by going 21 of 25. Kenadi Stuart, a fourth grader at Snowflake Intermediate School, won the 8 to 9 girls’ title at regionals by making 21 of 25 shots. She represents Show Low Lodge No. 2090. On April 22, follow Kenadi, Mylee and Damon’s progress from home using the live Elks Hoop Shoot shot-tracker online at elks.org/hoopshoot.
