The Snowflake Lobos went 3-1 in four baseball games played since returning from spring break. They fell at Florence last Tuesday, but bounced back with wins over Winslow, Tuba City and Blue Ridge to close out the week.

Tuesday’s game at Florence saw the Lobos fall behind in the first inning, then trail 6-2 after three innings. The Gophers tacked on three more runs in the fourth to win the game 9-2.

Fernando Quintana led Snowflake at the plate, going 3 for 4 with two doubles, an RBI and scored twice. JT Tate was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Tarren Reidhead went 2 for 4 with a triple. JR Fox was 1 for 4 with a double.

Fox and Ricky Munger combined to give up nine runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts and walked just one.

Thursday’s East Region game at Winslow provided a much better outcome for the Lobos. Snowflake led 6-0 after two innings, then finished the game off in five innings, winning 15-1.

Several Lobos did well at the plate. Tate went 4 for 5; Quintana, 3 for 4; Dylan Ervien, 2 for 4 with a double; Reidhead, 2 for 4 with a home run; Fox, 2 for 3; Koy Kelley, 2 for 4; Jesus Juarez, 2 for 4; Marc McCleve, 2 for 3; and Arizona Bryant, 1 for 2.

Fox gave up just one run on five hits with four strikeouts and walked two Bulldog batters. Quintana pitched two innings, allowing no runs on one hit with a strikeout and a walk.

Hosting Tuba City, both teams scored well through the first three innings with Snowflake holding a slim 10-8 advantage. Those eight would be all for the Warriors, but Snowflake tacked on six more to win the game 16-8. The Lobos scored their 16 runs on just nine hits and made one error. Tuba City scored eight runs on 10 hits, but made five errors.

Hosting Blue Ridge on Saturday, Snowflake broke open a close game with five runs in the bottom of the fifth enroute to a 10-2 region win. The game was tied 1-1 after the first. The Lobos scored one in each the third and fourth frames, then finished strong in the latter innings to win the power point contest.

Heading into this week’s action the Lobos were 7-4 overall and 5-2 in power point contests. After hosting Payson on Tuesday they will welcome Holbrook on Friday, March 31, then host Chino Valley on Saturday. On Tuesday, April 4, they travel to Show Low. Their 5-2 regular season record should land them near the top 10 when the initial rankings come out.
