I was born on Aug. 27, 1950, in Tempe, Ariz. I was raised in Arizona and attended high school in Holbrook, Mesa and graduated from Patagonia High School. I attended Mesa Community College, Brigham Young University and Utah State University.
I served in the U.S. Army, as both enlisted and officer. Assignments included Air Defense Officer 1-4 Calvary, Inspector/Evaluator – Allied Air Forces Central Europe, and Commander 30th Ordnance Company/504th Maintenance Detachment. I served in New Jersey, California, Kansas, Germany, Alabama, Washington, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
I have taught high school government, history and economics for six years in Patagonia and 10 years in Holbrook before retiring in 2012. I have five children and seven grandchildren.
Despite the nationwide weak economy over the past eight years, Holbrook has made great strides in improving the infrastructure, the business climate and quality of life in Holbrook.
My goal for the coming term is to continue the course we have set including more infrastructure improvements, continued efforts at beautification and blight removal, building on improvements in Parks and Recreation and building on the strengths of Holbrook as a destination for tourists, businesses and families.
My goal is to do this in a fiscally responsible manner, avoiding debt by funding projects and programs on a pay-as-we-go basis and by hiring a city staff of dedicated and talented people.
As the national economy improves of the next few years, it is important to continue to highlight Holbrook for its excellent geographic location, as having a trained and dedicated work force, and as a good place to raise a family and to educate children.
