Holbrook has begun their 2017 baseball season with two wins. The Roadrunners enter this season with lofty expectations with Cade Maestas who has already signed with Mesa Community College and several other veteran players on the roster.
Those expectations were nearly tainted in their opening game which was a 9-8 road win at Chinle on Feb. 22. Holbrook started well enough with three first inning runs, then led 5-0 after three innings. In the fourth Chinle mounted a comeback with four runs. Holbrook pushed their lead to 9-4 with a four run seventh inning. Chinle came right back in the bottom of the seventh with four of their own before Holbrook finally closed the door on their first win of the season.
At the plate Cole McDaniel went 1 for 4 with an RBI and scored once. Shane McGraw was also 1 for 4 with an RBI, scoring once. Cade Maestas went 2 for 4 including a home run, had two RBIs and scored twice. Jalen Nez was 1 for 2 with an RBI and scored once. Frankie Ulibarri went 2 for 4 scoring once. On Saturday Holbrook defeated Window Rock 13-0 in five innings. The Birds scored once in each the first and second frames, then opened the game up with a seven run third frame. In the fourth they tacked on four runs to end the game early.
