Court 1

Former employee and current city council candidate Louis Baldonado Jr. has filed his second lawsuit against the City of Holbrook claiming civil rights violations and interference with an employment contract, and alleging retaliation on the part of former City Manager Ray Alley, all stemming from the time he was employed by the city.

In the lawsuit Baldonado seeks unspecified damages for what he claims are harm to his professional reputation, lost wages, attorney’s fees and other costs associated with bringing the action, as well as interest on any judgment due.

Baldonado was dismissed from his position as the city recreation director in April 2016.

The initial lawsuit, dismissed in December 2015, was one of three separate cases that were later combined filed by Baldonado, Armando Aguilera, Markos Serna, Michael Kennedy, Oscar Chairez and Carlos Jimenez, all of whom worked under Alley’s direct supervision.

Their claims in that lawsuit alleged abuse of power, intentional infliction of emotional distress, pay and racial discrimination, sexual harassment and invasion of privacy against Alley.

The case was dismissed with prejudice in U.S. District Court, meaning the judge saw no way that the plaintiffs could amend their complaints in order to state a viable claim.

This latest lawsuit was filed in Navajo County Superior Court, with the Coronado Law Firm representing Baldonado.
