Joseph City’s Wildcats pulled a minor upset in the opening round of the 1A state basketball tournament last Friday morning at Yavapai College with a 61-47 win over eighth seeded Immaculate Heart High School.
The ninth seeded Wildcats couldn’t keep that momentum going the next day, though, and their season came to close against top seeded The Gregory School. The Hawks came into the game with an overall season record of 29-1 and proved to have too much for Joseph City, running away from the Wildcats 72-54 to advance to the semifinal round of the state tournament.
The Wildcats had a solid season for Coach Eric Miller, finishing the year with an overall record of 22-10.
