The Lady Roadrunners of Holbrook traveled to Show Low last Tuesday evening and returned home with an easy 61-27 victory over their East Region foes. They started well, netting 18 first period points while holding Show Low to just eight. Ariyana Pratt connected for eight points in the first period and fellow post player Madison Chappell added 4. In the second, Elena Smith and Tyler Pacheco each connected on three-point shots, helping Holbrook extend the lead to 41-14 at the half. Six different Holbrook players scored in the third, which pushed the game over the 30-point margin. A quick moving fourth period saw both teams net five points. Chappell led Holbrook with 15 points. Pratt added 14; Pacheco, 11; Elena Smith, 5; Alishea Kee, 4; Twyla Clark, Dishie Kinlicheenie, Rayanna Wauneka, Aiyana Gary and Shoshawnna Jack, 2 each; and Tyanna Smith, 1. As a team Holbrook made three treys and went 14 for 19 at the free throw line. Show Low failed to make a three-point shot and hit three of four free throws. “We started a little slow, but after a few minutes we got things rolling. It was good to finally see some shots start to go in. We have been struggling shooting the ball lately and we finally got some to go, which should raise our confidence in shooting the ball,” said Holbrook Coach Greg Perkins. “Now, hopefully, we can keep scoring like I know we are capable of. We have been working on our free throws and tonight it looks like it’s starting to pay off. “The end of our regular season schedule is going to be brutal, but it should really get us primed and ready for the state tournament.” The win moved the Roadrunners to 17-4 on the season and 9-3 in power point contests.
