Holbrook took sixth ranked Show Low to overtime before falling to the Cougars last Tuesday evening in Show Low, 58-55. The Roadrunners entered the game ranked 18th in power points and had their chances to pull off the upset, but some key missed first half layups and a couple of missed three-point shots in the final seconds of overtime proved vital in the outcome.

The Roadrunners started well, building a four-point lead in the first period behind five points from Korey McReeves and four more from J.E. Cummings. Jaren Jackson added four in the second and Hayden Kinlichee hit one of his five three-point bombs, giving Holbrook a 23-22 lead at the break. The Roadrunners extended that lead to two points in the third, then needed a late three-point shot from Kinlichee to force overtime. Jared Woody did his part in the fourth period as well, netting all eight of his points in the quarter.

After Kinlichee’s shot sent the game to overtime, Show Low quickly opened up a five-point lead early in the extra session and led 57-50 before Holbrook again made a late run. Kinlichee hit a long three-point shot to pull Holbrook closer, but in the end Show Low outscored the Roadrunners 11-8 in the overtime to pick up the win. This was the fourth time these two teams met up this year and the Cougars now hold a 3-1 edge in those contests.

Kinlichee led Holbrook with 17 points, which included five three-point shots. McReeves added 13; Woody, 8; Cummings and Jaren Jackson, 6 each; Elliot Pete, 4; and Tynen Thomas, 1. The Roadrunners connected on seven three-point shots and converted 6 of 10 free throws.

Show Low was led by Rhett Ricedorff with 21 points. The Cougars also made seven treys and they went 7 for 13 at the line.

With the loss Holbrook moved to 7-10 on the season and 3-8 in power point contests.
