ObitTina Pate 1

Albertina Wilhelmina “Tina” Pate, also affectionately known as Ineke, was reunited with her parents and brother in Heaven on Saturday, Dec. 24, at the age of 73, surrounded by her family at her home in Holbrook. A family gathering will be held at 12 noon on Friday, Dec. 30, followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. at Owens-Livingston Mortuary, located at 409 N. First Ave. in Holbrook.

Tina was born March 7, 1943, in Amsterdam, Holland, to Eildert and Johanna (Grimberg) Kor. She immigrated with her family to Southern California at the age of 13, where she loved swimming in the ocean, outpacing all the boys even though as a girl she was not allowed on the school swim team. She was a beautiful girl, and loved to dance ballet and to modern music. She was so talented that she was once selected to perform on an episode of the music performance television show American Bandstand.

She met the love of her life, Larry Pate, at the age of 17 and they were married a year later in 1961 in Imperial Beach, Calif. She raised four children with Larry as they moved from California to Arizona in 1969, living in Heber for a year, then to Joseph City in 1970, Anthem in 1985 and finally to Holbrook in 2006. She was employed as a clerk at Safeway and as a florist at Fry’s, where she retired after many years of service.

Tina was a gifted artist and made beautiful paintings, intricate crafts and inspired flower arrangements. She was an avid reader and wonderful cook, but most of all she was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her love and comfort will be sorely missed by her family and those close to her.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Larry; her four children, Wally (Martha) Pate of Mammoth, Tina (Earl) Castillo of Holbrook, Margaret (John McNelly) Maxwell of Campe Verde and Lester (Tracy) Pate of Holbrook; her grandchildren, Brittni, McKayla, Matthew, Christopher, Victor, Vanessa, Marcus, Magan, Scott, Madison and Christian; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Eildert Kor of San Diego, Calif, and her sisters Henderina McCollough of Ormond Beach, Fla., Karin Slade of Holbrook and Linda Kor-Fisher of Joseph City.

She was pre-deceased by her father and mother, and her brother, Geert Kor II.
