Playing on their home court in Snowflake for the first time this season, the Lady Lobos fell to visiting Window Rock 76-43 last Wednesday night.
The Lady Scouts jumped out early on the Lobos, outscoring them 17-5 in the first eight minutes. They also controlled the second period to lead 35-15 at the break. Both teams scored well in the third quarter, yet the Scouts’ margin grew larger. Window Rock scored in double figures once again in the final period in the big win.
Elle Flake led the Lobos in scoring with 14 points. Madison Butler, Emily Ballard and Breklee Tanner added 6 each; Shanae Stratton, 5; and Bailee Flake, Camaria Reidhead and Jessica Neff, 2 each. The Lobos were 0 for 6 from three-point land and really struggled at the free throw line, making just one of 17 attempts.
On Friday night Snowflake was again at home, this time hosting Florence, and the second time on the home court went much better. The Lobos held the Lady Gophers to single digits in each of the fourth quarters to win the game 59-25.
Bailee Flake led the team in scoring with 12 points. Tanner and Elle Flake also scored in double figures with 11 and 10, respectively. Ballard scored 6; Butler and Reidhead, 5 each; Stratton and Kaylee Coplan, 3 each; and Neff and Shelby Larson, 2 each; Snowflake made two of 10 three-point attempts and converted 13 of 24 free throws.
On Saturday afternoon Snowflake played in Chandler against the top ranked team in 3A, Valley Christian. The Lady Trojans lofty ranking didn’t bother the Lobos through the first eight minutes, which left Snowflake on top 14-13. In the second two quarters of play, though, Valley Christian showed it is deserving of its ranking, outscoring Snowflake 46-19 through that time frame.
Snowflake won the final period, but the damage had been done, sending the Lobos home with a 66-44 loss. Valley Christian remained unbeaten on the season.
Elle Flake led in scoring with 15 points. Tanner added 8; Ballard, 5; Nikita Olms, 4; Carina Crandell and Neff, 3 each; and Stratton, Butler and Reidhead, 2 each. Snowflake made five three-point shots and went 5 for 13 at the line.
The Lobos entered this week with an overall record of 9-7. After hosting Winslow on Tuesday night, they will be off for the Christmas break, then will return to the court on Friday, Jan. 6, when they host Payson in region play.
