Hosting Alchesay Dec. 6, the Holbrook Roadrunners started slowly at the beginning of each half and found themselves on the wrong end of a 67-36 final outcome.

The same team which hit 18 three-point shots at Safford the previous Saturday netted just six first quarter points, with none coming from behind the arc. Holbrook played better in the second quarter, but still trailed 30-19 at the half.

The third period really put the game out of reach. The Falcons raced out to a 25-point period while holding the Birds to only five points, all of which came from Hayden Kinlichee. Trailing by a large margin in the final eight minutes, Holbrook went to its youth and was rewarded when freshman Kobi Koerperich nailed three treys, including one that became a four-point play.

Koerperich’s 10 points led the Roadrunners in scoring. J.E. Cummings added 6; Kinlichee, 5; Kory McReeves, Tynen Thomas and Josiah Freddie, 4 each; and Jarred Woody, 3. Holbrook made five treys and converted three of eight free throws.

The Falcons were led by Harley Upton with 22 points. Raekwon Cosay added 17. Alchesay hit four three-point shots and went seven for 11 at the line.

With the loss the Roadrunners balanced their season mark at 1-1. After playing six games in the Round Valley tournament over the weekend, they will travel to Chinle for a tough game on Tuesday night, Dec. 13. On Friday, Dec. 16, they host Blue Ridge.
