Steven D’Wayne Slade, 68, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, in Holbrook. Born Nov. 18, 1947, in Holbrook, he was the third child born to Ivan Lloyd Slade and LaWanda Slade Connolly. Steve served in the U.S. Military for 14 years, was in law enforcement for 19 years, a member of the Holbrook Volunteer Fire Department for 32 years and in 2010, after dedicating 30-plus years, he retired from Navajo County. In 1985, Steve married the love of his life, Valerie Sample. They enjoyed 32 years together. Steve enjoyed spending time with his wife and children, traveling, woodworking, watching Nascar, and exploring the great outdoors on his Ranger with his wife. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend. He was preceded in death by his father, Ivan Lloyd Slade. Survivors include his wife, Valerie Slade; two children, Brittany Slade and Ryan Slade; his mother, LaWanda Connolly; and three siblings, Janet Tower, Roger Slade and Joseph Slade. Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.
