The Dragon Knight, book eight of The Imaginarium Geographic Series by author James Owen of Taylor, will soon be available.
Here, There Be Dragons, the first book in The Chronicles of Imaginarium Geographica series, was published in 2006 and was followed by six sequels.
“I decided to do a new book in my best series,” said Owen, so he wrote and illustrated The Dragon Knight, a stand-alone book. “You can read it first or at any point in between, but it’s connected to the other books,” he said.
Owen will publish the book using Kickstarter, which will be his sixth project on Kickstarter. He published the all comic book material Starchild series, The Meditation Trilogy and four coloring books featuring illustrations from his books.
“If I sold it to an agent, it wouldn’t come out until 2018, but because I know how to produce books, I know how to work printers and I have a lot of loyal fans, we could do this,” he explained. He has found that he can connect online with his active fan base and many loyal readers, which makes it easy to publish a new book. Owen anticipates the book will be available in December.
Owen is offering rewards to those loyal fans who back him on Kickstarter with The Dragon Knight. One reward is that the book will have a slipcase and leatherette cover, with Owen’s art work tipped in, which means that the art edition has a dragon drawn in the book. “That’s the most popular one,” said Owen.
He offers a book in the regular hard cover and one that is signed with a slipcase.
“That’s what has been making this work, my fans are mostly ordering the art edition,” he said.
“Supporting the Kickstarter is not just creating the book and helping finance what I am doing right now, it helps sustain my business for a long time,” he said.

Owen’s career began two years before he was old enough to have a driver’s license. He was the youngest exhibitor at San Diego Comicon.
When Owen speaks at schools, he tells his own story about overcoming adversity as he draws a dragon.
The Meditations Trilogy Drawing out the Dragons, The Barbizon Diaries and The Grand Design tell his inspiring story and encourage you to believe in yourself. They are available as ebooks, but through a Kickstarter project they have been printed in a set with a slipcase.
Owen plans to have a local book signing in December, but said that the best way to get one of his new books is by backing Kickstarter, because backers will get their book before the books go on sale to the public.
