The Joseph City Lady Wildcats had a busy week to wrap up the regular volleyball season, playing five matches. Despite winning three of those five, they head into the 1A Central region tournament this weekend needing to finish at least as the runner-up in order to have a chance to make the state playoffs.
Joseph City finished the regular season ranked 19th in power points and, according to the Arizona Interscholastic Association tournament rules, two teams from the Central Region automatically make the state tournament only if the region tournament champion is also the regular season champion. Mogollon won the region regular season crown and if the Lady Mustangs win the tournament, the second place team will automatically qualify. If the Mustangs don’t win the tournament, Joseph City will have to be the tournament champion in order to make the post-season. The regional tournament will be played at Mayer High School.
In their final five matches, the Wildcats split a doubleheader at Cibecue on Tuesday, losing the first match 3-1, then winning the second 3-0. On Thursday they were at Grand Canyon, where they won both matches, 3-0 and 3-2. The Lady Cats wrapped up the season on Friday at Williams, losing the match 3-0.
Joseph City finished the regular season with a record of 8-8.
