The Wildcats had little problems handling El Capitan last Friday night, posting 47 first quarter points in a 49-point Homecoming victory over the visiting Eagles at Joseph City. The Cats remain unbeaten on the season with a 4-0 mark.
Joseph City dominated the game scoring on the ground, through the air and on both sides of the ball, collecting three defensive scores.
The offense racked up 437 yards with a balanced attack. Cameron Baldwin completed five of eight passes for 118 yards with a pair of touchdowns. Bryndon Buckley connected on one of three for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Joseph City receivers weren’t real busy, but the balls they did catch were for big yards and scores. Matt Fields had one catch for 85 yards and a score. Rhett Beard did nearly as well, scoring from 65 yards out with his only reception. Aaron Johnstun had two catches for 42 yards and a score. Rance Haddox made one 12-yard catch.
On the ground, Troy Poudrier gained 61 yards and a score on six rushes. Seth Hutchens gained 49 yards on five runs. Fields carried just three times, but scored on two of the three runs and gained a total of 44 yards. Baldwin rushed twice, gaining 35 yards with a score. Buckley rushed three times for 27 yards. KJ Kinlicheenie picked up 17 yards on five attempts. Dylan Romero rushed twice, gaining five yards.
El Capitan may have thought Joseph City defenders were on their team, as the Wildcats collected five interceptions from Eagle quarterbacks. Johnstun had three of those picks, returning two for touchdowns. Beard and Talon Smith also had picks on defense. Along with their five interceptions, Joseph City also recovered four fumbles. Kaden Westover, Carlos Sanchez, Kinlicheenie and Kolton McCormick each had one, and McCormick returned his 34 yards for a Wildcat score.
The Wildcats will put their unbeaten streak on the line this week when they host Williams. The Vikings come in with a 3-1 season mark, outscoring Rough Rock and Fredonia 156-6 in their past two games.
