Playing in the Show Low Invitational tournament last Friday and Saturday, the Holbrook Lady Roadrunner soccer team tied a match with Payson, and fell to Blue Ridge, Snowflake and Camp Verde.
Friday’s action was a 7-0 shutout loss to a tough Blue Ridge team. Holbrook played better against Snowflake, making it to the half with a 0-0 tie. The Lady Lobos posted five second half goals to win the match 5-0. On Saturday morning the Holbrook squad improved its overall play, but the final result was a similar one as Camp Verde defeated the team 3-0. In Holbrook’s final match of the tournament the squad forged a 1-1 tie with Payson.
Sophie Phaturos scored Holbrook’s goal in the tie. Holly Hill was selected to the all tournament team for her effort in all four matches.
“The girls played hard and improved in every game. Holbrook has now scored seven goals on the season, showing a large improvement from the past few years. We are proud of these girls and we hope we can get a lot more support for this tough Lady Roadrunner soccer program,” stated Assistant Coach Victor Paz.
Holbrook has a three-match home stand before heading to Tucson for a tournament at the end of the month. After hosting Snowflake on Tuesday, the Roadrunners will welcome St. Johns on Saturday, Sept. 24. On Tuesday, Sept. 27, they host Round Valley. The team is now 1-6-1 on the season.
