Holbrook City Manager Ray Alley resigned unexpectedly on Monday, after submitting a resignation the week before stating that he would resign in May of next year.
Mayor Bobby Tyler stated that Assistant City Manager Randy Sullivan would step into the position as the interim manager until the council could meet next week to discuss options moving forward.
Alley has run the city since 2009 during a difficult time when funding was being cut 25 percent by the state. He made sweeping changes that allowed the city to operate on its most efficient level and cutting back on expenses while not allowing the shortages to affect the services to the citizens of Holbrook.
Recently Alley’s methods have been called into question by Councilman Tim Dixon who has been very verbal with his concerns during council meetings, to the point of causing disruption. Whether or not this had any impact on Alley’s decision could not be confirmed.
When asked about his resignation, Alley would only state that he just thought it would be best to leave and that he had nothing bad to say about the experience. His wife Rosa commented on her husband’s resignation stating, “In my heart I know they will not find another who will care and take care of this city like he did. I know the price we have paid as a family.”
