A Show Low man is in custody following an incident involving shots fired and a standoff with law enforcement officers at a residence at 1060 Old Linden Road in Show Low.
Tyler Jeffrey Gold was being sought by Navajo County Major Crimes Apprehension Team detectives for four felony warrants that included his suspected involvement in a shooting incident that occurred in the Walmart parking lot in Show Low in January. During that incident Gold allegedly fired upon another man during a drug-related incident. No one was harmed in the incident and it remains under investigation.
Detectives discovered Gold was at a home owned by his mother and went to arrest him on the warrants. As they approached the residence, Gold attempted to flee out the back door, but spotted officers and ran back into the house to the front door, where he was met by five more uniformed officers.
Gold reportedly pointed a handgun in their direction and in response, one of the officers discharged his weapon, firing numerous rounds at Gold, but missed him. Gold retreated into the residence and barricaded himself in one of the rooms. The White Mountain Regional Special Response Team was called in and attempted to negotiate with Gold for about six hours before deploying tear gas, after which Gold surrendered without incident.
In addition to the warrants, Gold was booked into the Navajo County Jail on charges of possession of a firearm by a prohibited possessor, and five counts each of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and attempted murder.
