Holbrook High School senior Darian Hollins is a state champion after placing first in the long jump event at the Division III state championship meet held last weekend at Mesa Community College. Her winning jump of 17-05 inches was not only her personal best of the season, but was also the top in the state in Division III.
Hollins also placed 11th overall in the triple jump with a distance of 32-7.50 inches and 19th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.53.
Classmate Wazuri Waits qualified for the state long jump event, where he placed third with a distance of 32-05.35. Like Hollins, he also qualified for the triple jump, but had to pull out of the event with an injury sustained during the long jump.
They were the only Holbrook track team members to qualify for the state meet.
