The Indian Wells Elementary School Red softball team fell to Wide Ruins 12-5 on April 13. The game started off hot with Tianna Lester, Bowdie Yellowhair, Heidi Yazzie, Mareevah Belin and Kehng Begay all getting hits and scoring a run. Kehng Begay collected six strikeouts, but the Roadrunner defense could not keep Wide Ruins from scoring 12 runs. Wide Ruins has a very small, but powerful team. Eight-year-old Andre was a phenomenal catcher, went 3 for 4 at the plate and scored a run. Their pitcher, Gabby, had six strikeouts against the Roadrunners. The previous day, the Red squad was edged by Second Mesa, 8-7. Second Mesa started the game off strong, scoring four runs in the first inning to lead 4-2. The Roadrunners came back in the third inning, scoring five runs to take the lead at 7-4. The comeback was not enough to hold Second Mesa, though, which scored four runs in the fourth. The game ended with three outs in a row, leaving the Roadrunners with the loss.
