Baseball 3 Holbrook

Holbrook will be in the field of 32 when the opening round of the Division III state baseball tournament gets underway in Surprise on Friday, April 29. The Roadrunners entered their final two games ranked 13th in power points and regardless of how they do against Show Low today (April 27), they should still be seeded inside the top 16 in the final standings.

Prior to their season finale at home against the Cougars, Holbrook had to finish their suspended game with Payson on Tuesday afternoon. That game was called due to darkness last week with the teams knotted at 10-10. It was slated to wrap up beginning at 1 p.m. on Tuesday in Holbrook.

Their final regular season and home game will be played this afternoon against Show Low.

The Roadrunners traveled to Page for a doubleheader last Friday and left for home with a sweep of the Sand Devils. Holbrook took the first game 12-2 and won the second 7-4.

Tristan Baldonado earned the first win on the hill with five innings of work. He faced 21 batters, giving up two runs on three hits with five strikeouts and walked just two.

At the plate Holbrook collected 17 hits, led by Nick Robinson, who went 4 for 4 with a triple, a double, five RBIs and scored two runs. Cade Maestas was 2 for 2 with a double, two RBIs and scored three times. Shane McGraw went 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Trevor Barton was 2 for 4, scoring twice. Baldonado went 2 for 3 and scored twice. Alex Haussman went 2 for 3 and scored once. Delano Anaya was 1 for 3. Michael O’Brien went 2 for 4 and scored once.

In the second game, Maestas was 3 for 4 with a home run, seven RBIs and scored three runs. Justin Perkins returned to the lineup, and went 2 for 4 with an RBI and scored three runs. O’Brien went 2 for 3 with an RBI and scored once. McGraw was 1 for 3, as was Baldonado. Barton went 1 for 3 with a double. Scottie Gishie and Robinson both went 1 for 2.
