The Joseph City Chamber of Commerce has announced that B.G. “Bill” Bennett and Lynn A. Rogers will be inducted into the Joseph City Hall of Fame. This honor recognizes individuals who have made a difference in the lives of the people living in community. Those who are included in the Hall of Fame are citizens who have gone the extra mile to serve and help make the community a better place to live. Bennett was born, raised and accomplished his education through his Bachelors of Science degree in Mississippi. Other advanced studies, including his master’s degree, were achieved as he taught school in the Winslow School District. He also served with distinction in the U.S. Navy. He accepted an offer to be the first school superintendent for the Joseph City School District, with the responsibility of implementing the high school, working on a building plan and making sure the school became accredited. He is largely responsible for the education system for the community. Upon his retirement, he became the Navajo County School Superintendent. Bennett has been active in service clubs and his church, as well as the community. He has always wanted to see youth progress and learn all they can. He has supported many different groups in Joseph City and has been, and will continue to be, a great asset to the community. He was married to Juanita Lorraine Holland for 54 years before she passed from this life. She, too, was an outstanding educator. They are the parents of four children, Alan, Daryl, Rick and Lori, and have eight grandchildren. He is a friend to all and a true gentleman. Lynn A. Rogers was born, raised and spent most of his life in Joseph City. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He has worked as an electrician, delivered eggs for the Northern Arizona Poultry Association, worked as a milkman and a custodian, and was bus driver for the Joseph City School District. Rogers was married to Donna J. Jackson until she passed away in 1999. They raised their four children, Lynette, Roy, Kelly and Marvin, in Joseph City, and have 16 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He raises chickens, pigs and rabbits, and grows a large beautiful garden each year. He shares his garden freely and for years he has taken truckloads to people in need. He has also found other ways to assist others. He always shows up with his gloves, ready to work and with no fanfare. Lynn has a big heart and serves others quietly. These men will be honored during the Founder’s Day activities on Saturday, March 26. A presentation and reception will be held from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the New Life Center Church on Main Street and the public is encouraged to attend. After the reception, they will be honored as part of the parade procession that will begin at 10 a.m. on Main Street.
