By Greg Perkins The Snowflake Lobos’ chance to defend their crown in the Division III basketball state title game came up just a quarter short as they fell in the final four to new champion Scottsdale Christian. The Lobos earned a return trip to the semifinals on Thursday with a 57-49 win over 10th seeded North Canyon. That win set up the penultimate game of the bracket with third seeded Scottsdale Christian. Snowflake trailed by two after the first period, but led at the half 31-30. With just eight minutes to play the Lobos appeared poised for a return trip to the final game as they held a 53-46 edge. That lead and their hopes for back-to-back titles vanished in the fourth when the Lobos were outscored 30-11 by the third seeded Eagles, who went on to upset the Lobos 76-64. Scottsdale Christian Academy won the state title with a 40-35 victory over top seeded Estrella Foothills on Saturday night. Snowflake posted another highly impressive season, going 30-4, one of only four boys’ teams in the state to win 30 games this year. Next year the Lobos will have to overcome the loss of six seniors, Tyler Claridge, Jordan Gardner, Kegan Bjornn, Kurt Wood, Ty Pawlick and Jake Lyman, who have been so instrumental in the past few seasons for head Coach Andy Wood.
