By Greg Perkins In an offensive display from both teams last Friday night, the Holbrook Roadrunners’ basketball season came to an end by a final of 92-89. The 12th seeded Roadrunners fell to fifth seeded Mingus in a game in which the two teams combined for 28 three-point shots. Holbrook’s Abrian Dickson accounted for 11 of those treys with an offensive night to remember. The senior finished the night and his prep career with a 46-point outburst. The fireworks started quickly with both teams matching each other with three straight treys to open the scoring. Holbrook’s first four buckets were from behind the arc, with two each coming from Hayden Kinlichee and Dickson. In total, the two squads nailed 10 treys in the opening eight minutes, which left Holbrook on the wrong side of a 29-18 first period margin. Benson Davis hit a three-point shot in the second and Dickson drained 21 points in that quarter, but the Birds still trailed 51-45 at the half. The third period was where the Marauders made their mark. They outscored Holbrook 19-13 and built their margin to double digits heading into the fourth. In the final quarter Dickson tacked on an additional 16 points and Rhett Desiderio added three treys of his own, but Holbrook was never able to quite catch Mingus before falling by three. The higher seed made 13 of 14 free throws in the fourth period to seal the win and put a final stamp on Holbrook’s season. Dickson finished with those amazing 46 points, which included 11 three-point shots, four regular field goals and a five for six performance at the line. Desiderio added 15, with all coming from distance. Kinlichee scored 8; Davis, 7; Elliot Pete, 4; and Nathan Johnson, Miireux Begaii, and Brandon Kester, 3 each. Holbrook amassed 20 treys and made seven of 13 free throws. The Roadrunners finished their season with an overall record of 23-11. Mingus made eight three-pointers and went 18 for 21 at the line to improve to 23-7 on the season. The Marauders will now take on Winslow at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, at the Gila River Arena in Glendale.
