By Greg Perkins The Snowflake Lobos pushed their overall mark to 26-3, and are headed to the section basketball tournament this week as the No. 1 seed and riding a 14-game win streak. The Lobos dropped their first game in January to Verrado and have not been beaten since. Last Tuesday night they easily cruised past Window Rock, 78-51. Playing at home the Lobos netted 41 first half points, then drained another 25 in the third period alone. Kegan Bjornn and Jordan Gardner each netted 15 points. Kurt Wood put up a triple double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Tyler Claridge added 10 points; Garson Hatch and Trey Schneider, 8 each; Jake Lyman, 4; and Dallin Chapman and Ty Pawlick, 3 each. On Friday night the Lobos were challenged late by visiting North, but after building a comfortable first half lead, they won 75-64. Wood finished with 22 points; Ty Pawlick added 17; Gardner, 12 with 10 rebounds; Claridge and Bjornn, 7 each; Schneider and Chapman, 4 each; and Lyman, 2. As the top seed in this week’s section tournament Snowflake won’t play until Friday, Feb. 12, where they await the winner of the No. 4 Holbrook vs. No. 5 Tuba City game slated tonight (Feb. 1) in Chinle. The semi-final contest will also be played at Chinle, as will Saturday’s championship game. Winslow is the No. 2 seed, and will play the winner between No. 6 Monument Valley and No. 3 Window Rock. Heading into this week Snowflake was ranked third in the power point rankings. Sectional games count toward power point rankings, so the Lobos may move up, depending on how the other section tournaments unfold.
