By Greg Perkins Holbrook must feel snake bitten by Winslow this season. Over a 10-day stretch the Roadrunners have twice fallen victim to late game miscues, which on both occasions kept them from having chances to defeat the Bulldogs. In the first meeting it was a called time out which they didn’t have, then on Saturday night in front of a packed house in Winslow it was a late game steal by the Bulldogs which broke a tie with 3.9 seconds left on the clock. Those final three points by Akeem Foster clinched the 48-45 win for Winslow. Holbrook used a strong third period to pull away from a 22-22 halftime tie. Abrian Dickson, who was held in check from the perimeter by his standards, finishing with just two long range shots in the game, joined Benson Davis and Rhett Desiderio from distance in the third to propel Holbrook to a nine-point lead heading to the fourth. Dickson went out for a couple of minutes with a sprained ankle and by the time he had returned, Winslow made up the deficit, outscoring Holbrook 13-4 in the fourth up until the final seconds when Foster’s theft led to the three-point win. Dickson led Holbrook in scoring with 12 points. Davis added 9; Hayden Kinlicheenie and Miireux Begaii, 6 each; Nathan Johnson, 5; Elliot Pete, 4; and Desiderio, 3. Holbrook made six three-point shots and went seven for eight at the charity stripe. Winslow was led by Dalvin Benally with 18 points, 12 of which came from behind the arc. Foster added 14; Nathan Hanley, 8; Nathan Hollins, 6; and Mark Faust, 2. The Bulldogs made five three-point shots and went seven for 10 at the line. With the loss, the Roadrunners fall to 18-7 overall and 8-5 in power point games. After playing at Northland Prep on Monday night, they will welcome in Coach Raul Mendoza and the Window Rock Scouts tonight (Jan. 27). On Saturday, they will wrap up the penultimate week of the regular season with a home contest against Page. The final week of the season will have them at Chinle on Wednesday, Feb. 3, followed by the last regular season home game on Friday, Feb. 5, against Monument Valley.
