The Holbrook Lady Roadrunners dropped their third consecutive game dating back to the Sedona Tournament to Division II Prescott 65-59 on Monday afternoon at home. Both teams scored well in the first stanza, with the Lady Badgers on top 18-16 after one. In the second Prescott posted another 18-point effort, thanks in part to terrific perimeter shooting connecting on four of their nine three-point shots for the game. Holbrook fell further behind in the third despite seven in the quarter from Laurie Brown. In the fourth it was the Roadrunners who hit from distance four times to pull to within six points at the final buzzer. “We knew coming in we were outsized and they did a good job of spreading us out. They are a good team with quality players at every position. If we focused too much on their post players, they would knock down three-point shots in the first half. In the second half we switched up our defense and played better on that end of the floor, but we are still making too many mental errors on offense,” said Coach Greg Perkins. “We now have one tournament left to get things ironed out before the all important January schedule is upon us. I thought Laurie (Brown) stepped up her game and Quanyyah (Lester) did a great job with 17 points in the first half, but she didn’t score in the second half.” Even so, Lester was Holbrook’s top scorer. Brown added 14; Ariyana Pratt, 8; Tyler Pacheco, 7; Dakota Dick, 5; Shoshawna Jack and Alishea Kee, 3 each; and Twyla Clark made a pair of free throws. The Roadrunners connected on nine treys and went 10 for 17 at the free throw line. Prescott was led by Mackenzie Grauberger with 14, followed by Hanah Madsen with 13. The Badgers also made nine three-point shots and went four for eight at the line. Holbrook will play in the Valley Christian Tournament on Monday, Dec. 28, with games against Snowflake and Poston Butte. The tourney continues on Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 29 and 30. Following the tournament the Roadrunners will be off until Saturday, Jan. 9, when they travel to face the defending state champion Page Lady Sand Devils.
