By Greg Perkins The Snowflake boys dropped just their second game of the season last Friday night with a 58-52 loss to visiting Estrella Foothills. The night before they won their 12th game of the year 62-49 at Show Low. Last Thursday’s game against the Cougars saw the Lobos double up the home team in the first period to lead 18-9. Snowflake’s defense limited Show Low to just five points in the second and the Lobos held a commanding 34-14 lead. They easily controlled the second half in the rout. Jordan Gardner led the way with 14 points. Trey Schneider added 10; Dallin Chapman, 9; Kegan Bjornn and Kurt Wood, 7 each; Ty Pawlick, 6; and Tyler Claridge, 1. Friday’s home game against Estrella went much differently. The Lobos came out of the blocks slow and found themselves trailing by 10 points after netting just four in the first eight minutes. They managed to trim four points off the Wolves’ lead in the second, but still trailed 29-23 at the half. That margin returned to six following just 12 points in the third period for the Lobos. Hoping to make a run in the final eight minutes Snowflake outscored the visitors by just three points to take the loss. The Lobos struggled from the field for much of the night, finishing with just a 31 percent shooting performance. They made only two of 18 three-point attempts, which really affected that stat. Bjornn netted 12 points. Schneider also scored 12 and pulled down 13 rebounds. Wood finished with 11 points; Gardner, 10 and 13 boards; Pawlick, 4; and Claridge, 3. Snowflake finished the 2015 portion of the schedule with an overall record of 12-2. The Lobos will return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 2, when they host Verrado. On Tuesday, Jan. 5, they will travel to Combs for a rematch of last year’s state championship game, which was won by the Lobos.
