What might it have been like that first Christmas night in Bethlehem? Pastor Jeff Johnson and the people of Peace Lutheran Church in Holbrook invite the community to come and imagine with them. Meeting at the ranch of Bill and Lois Jeffers where “the cattle are lowing,” this family-friendly, 45-minute early Christmas Eve service is intended to help worshippers feel how it might have been on the night of Jesus’ birth. “Dress warmly,” Pastor Johnson advised, “because we’ll be meeting outdoors at the stable. We’ll sit on hay bales, lighting will be subdued and the guitar will accompany our singing. We want to evoke a sense of wonder.” “There’s even going to be a full moon that night,” host Bill Jeffers added. This special Christmas Eve service begins at 4:30 p.m. at the Jeffers’ ranch, located at 6450 Jeffers Ranch Road, a half-mile northwest of the Circle K. Come a little early to secure parking and seating. In the event of inclement weather, Christmas at the Stable will be held inside the barn. The Peace Lutheran congregation will also be offering a traditional, candlelight communion service at 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve at the church proper (105 Svenson St.). The public is invited to both services.
