The Lady Roadrunners defeated an overmatched Northland Prep team last Thursday night in Flagstaff by a final of 77-10. Despite having a 6’5” post on the floor, the Lady Spartans were unable to penetrate Holbrook’s defense in two of the four periods. Holbrook led 26-0 at the close of the first period, led by Quanyyah Lester’s 12 points. In the second Ariyana Pratt worked her way around the larger Spartan players to net six of her 10, helping Holbrook to a 42-8 halftime lead. Nine different Roadrunners scored in the third period, led by freshman Sevanah Bitahy with 5. Aiyana Gary netted 4 points in the rapidly moving final period in which Holbrook again held the home team scoreless. “They certainly had the height advantage, but overall we were just the better team,” said Coach Greg Perkins. “They are a very young team, but I really wouldn’t want to play them once they figure out how to get their big girl involved. She will become a force as she gets older. “Now we can focus on our difficult schedule ahead, which begins this week.” Lester led all scorers with 16 points. Pratt and Dakota Dick both netted 10. Laurie Brown and Gary hit for 8 each. Elena Smith Bitahy and Shoshawna Jack added 5 each; Tyler Pacheco and Alishea Kee, 4 each; and Twyla Clark and Dishie Kinlicheenie, 2 each. Holbrook entered this week at 2-1 on the young season. After hosting a much improved Blue Ridge team on Tuesday for their first home game of the year, the Birds will travel to Sedona on Thursday, Dec. 10, for five or six games over a three-day tournament.
