Buddy L. Young, 80, passed away on Friday, Nov. 27, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at Messinger Payson Funeral Home, located at 901 S. Westerly Road in Payson.
Buddy was born July 15, 1935, in Plainview, Texas.
He married Billie Ballard and moved to Flagstaff in 1955.
Buddy was a skilled mechanic and opened his own auto body shop in the 1960s. Later, he went to work for the Winslow Job Corps. In 1967, Buddy was hired to work for the General Services Administration in Holbrook and later became manager. The family lived in Joseph City.
When Buddy retired, he and Billie enjoyed traveling for several years before she passed away.
Later, Buddy met and married Maria Larson. They enjoyed their retirement years by traveling, spending winters at Tonto Basin and were blessed to grow old together.
Buddy was a problem solver. He could fix just about anything. Many relied on his knowledge and abilities. Buddy taught his family how to hunt and fish. We loved being with our Dad and Papa and have a lifetime of memories with him. He was raised in a Christian home and was not ashamed to confess Jesus Christ as his Savior. It is because of his faith that we take comfort in knowing we will see him again one day.
Survivors include his wife, Maria; four children, Connie (Randy) Rossow, Randy (Judy) Young, Robert (Rebecca) Young and Tracy (Suzy) Young; seven grandchildren, Kristen Rossow, Scott (Leslie) Rossow, Shannon (Tyler) Rogers, Crystal Young, Erin Young, Brian Young and Brittany (Cody) Davenport; and three great-grandchildren, Laikyn and Ayslee Davenport and Hayden Rogers. Buddy’s surviving siblings are: Marilyn Shields, Raymond (Sandy) Young, Douglas (Lynda) Young and Alyce (Stanley) Carson. He also has many nieces, nephews and an extended family of relatives in Texas.
