A Holbrook man was hospitalized following a stabbing that occurred at the Economy Inn on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

According to the Holbrook Police Department, a 911 call was made by Cory Maho, 23, at 8:12 p.m. saying that he was at the motel and had been stabbed, and then he disconnected the call.

Officers canvassed the area, but could find no evidence of foul play. A short while later they discovered Maho with a stab wound to his stomach in the alley behind Walt’s Hardware in the 500 block of West Hopi Drive. Maho was transported to the Little Colorado Medical Center in Winslow, then flown to Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. He was listed in stable condition.

Maho’s girlfriend, Cia Tungovia, 23, also of Holbrook, was arrested in connection with the assault and was booked into the Navajo County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Investigators stated that the couple had an argument prior to the incident and that alcohol was involved.
