Snowflake’s Lady Lobos advanced to the third round of the 32-team Division III State Volleyball Tournament before their season came to a close the evening of Nov. 6.

The Lobos entered the bracket as the seventh seed and took care of 26th ranked Barry Goldwater the previous evening, although it wasn’t easy. Snowflake dropped the first game 26-24, but came back to win the next three 25-20, 25-21 and 27-25.

Round two’s matchup with 10th seeded Desert Edge the next afternoon went smoother, with Snowflake controlling the match throughout, winning in three games, 25-17, 25-14 and 25-19.

That evening the Lobos ran into the No. 2 overall seed, Chandler Prep. Things looked good early, and the Lobos were primed for an upset after they won the first game 27-25 and the second 25-15. Snowflake had a chance to end the match in game three, but eventually fell 25-23. Game four went to Chandler Prep 25-20, setting up the decisive final game five. Snowflake played tough, but in the end Chandler prevailed 15-11, putting an end to the Lobos’ season.

Snowflake finished the year with an overall mark of 35-8-1 in all matches played.

Chandler Prep went on to defeat No. 3 Horizon Honors in the semifinal round, then fell to eventual state champion Greenway in the title match.
